Finch Technology

The Finch Company, located in Pittston, PA, has been serving the machinery manufacturing industry since 1855. During the 1880’s between ninety and one hundred persons worked at the business. At full capacity the plant employed two hundred people, and was one of the leading industries in the city of Scranton. In 1893 the Finch Manufacturing Company was incorporated.

Finch manufactured sewer covers which are still on many streets in Scranton. They repaired machinery for the coal mines and breakers (a machine which breaks up coal). The company drilled the inside of  Navy battleship guns and received a Navy “E” for excellence for their work for the country during World War II.  In the early 1960’s the business moved from Scranton to West Pittston, about 8 miles away.  More recently, Finch had fallen on hard times since the recession began 4 years ago.

Finch Technology has been re-born due to the combination of local investors recapitalizing the business and the Northeast Pennsylvania SEWN office.  Together they provided the capital and manufacturing expertise to continue the business on a firm base.  SEWN provided in-depth analysis identified opportunities and recommended improvements to the business during the transition. The local investors have made it happen. SEWN assisted the new owners as a third-party consultant to oversee the direction of the reorganized company, and to provide cash management and financial oversight until the business is stabilized and self-sufficient.

Current national and international business includes parts and new units for cement, lime, and aluminum kilns, repairs and new parts for companies working in the Marcellus Shale area, and structural steel design and manufacture for high tech installations.  One of the more interesting businesses Finch is currently servicing is new and repaired parts for steam locomotives.  Finch parts are on steam locomotives throughout the United States.

Finch Technology has become profitable once again-- hiring additional employees, growing company sales and expanding its customer base.
