
Miller Welding and Machine Company, located in Jefferson County, is one of the leading metal fabricating and machining businesses in Pennsylvania. It specializes in the production of complete subassemblies of heavy equipment used in the construction industry.
At the beginning of 2009, the business volume for these products dropped significantly in response to the recession. This situation forced the company to lay off a large portion of its workforce.
However, due to its sound management, Miller Welding and Machine Company was able to invest in the development of new production capabilities during this difficult time. Miller Welding and Machine Company formed a partnership with a Spanish manufacturer of dual-axis solar tracking towers. These towers orient photovoltaic panels towards the sun.
SEWN worked with Miller Welding and Machine Company to develop its solar energy industry initiative and enter the US market for this technology. SEWN helped the company to develop its marketing campaign and identify prospective customers, which ultimately enabled Miller Welding and Machine Company to sell its first solar tracker in the United States.
